NOTE: whatever DOGE “savings” have been accumulated are quickly being spent to supply the State of Israel with bombs to drop on poor people. A cursory analysis (you can see below), leads me to believe that BEST CASE TRUMP just created 1,000 new homeless veterans, to include (likely) canceling programs that support veterans THAT ARE HOMELESS and helps them reintegrate and find jobs. 1,000 seems like a small number, until you realize these are families too, kids in the mix, and after 2 years of working with under-housed/homeless kids it’s clear to me that living on the streets creates more poverty, not less, for generations to come. Assumption: the volunteer rate for American veterans is higher than the percentage of veterans generally. But let’s accept the conservative bet and simply use the population fraction as the multiplier: 6.1% or 0.06
6.1% of 32,000 canceled AmeriCorps volunteers would be 1,920, but I would round this up to 2,000 based upon the assumption that the volunteer rate for veterans is GREATER THAN the rate of veterans in the population generally.
2,000 veterans … now multiply this times the population likelihood of homelessness given current economic circumstances.
So, I would propose that by cutting the 400 million from AmeriCorps, Trump just placed:
2,000 * 0.59 = 1180
1180 new homeless veterans.
