*** Mutual Assured Destruction theory (as a constant reminder) only works IF ALL PLAYERS are RATIONAL. They don’t have to be good or moral, they simply have to have rational self interests that they are trying to protect. It’s been studied, during the COLD WAR, that a “madman in the KREMLIN” scenario DEMANDS rational players conduct a targeted nuclear first strike. It’s as deterministic as mutual self destruction. Simply put: you can play the nuclear game with Joseph Stalin, you can’t play this game with Jim Jones. Biden? Trump? and even Obama? Bush? – looked, look, progressively insane in their foreign policies, going back several decades. At this point, what would stop China, Russia, or both to conduct a decapitation strike against the USA in order to prevent ALL OUT NUCLEAR WAR. Yes, this would kill many hundreds of thousands of Americans, even if they use improved nukes and low yield nukes – but this is against BILLIONS DYING in a nuclear catastrophe. The logic of MAD says: China, Russia, or both, have huge incentives for a nuclear first strike and very few incentives left to “hope for a more rational player” – all of America has gone mad on ZIO-TRASH reasoning.
